to make a very, very long story very, very short:
jonah flails his arms at andy on friday night, december 26th. gives andy a corneal abrasion that’s as deep and long as the doctor had ever seen one. doctor’s office, hospital, medicine-goo in his eye, if he shuts his eye for longer than 30 seconds it feels like someone’s putting a lit cigarette to the eyeball. no sleep. no sleep. me take care of jonah and everything else while andy is literally moaning in pain, even now, 4 days later, we are both operating on frazzled nerves and almost zero sleep. plus the tylenol w/codeine they gave him is making him nauseous, even half doses, and today he’s thrown up several times. when i put jonah down for his nap i made sure andy was okay and then i went down to the basement and read in the quiet.
some other, lighter, highlights of things that happened before the eye incident:
christmas day andy and i were playing “family feud” – (on e-bay i got the original 70s board game for him for christmas) – and all the answers are from the mid 70s so you really have to think before you answer. female singers were referenced by last-name only, and we couldn’t even figure out who some of them even were! Then I saw “Franklin” and said to Andy, “Urethra Franklin?” …and that was the end of conversation for about a half an hour of hysterical laughter.
then later that night i put jonah to bed and i was hand-painting a “thank you” card — and after painting the two words on the front in careful, pretty, white brushstrokes, i sat back to look at it.
I had painted “Thank York.”
