jonah now goes to a special playgroup/preschool for kids with autism between ages 2 & 3…it’s tues & thurs from 9:15am to 11:15am and he really seems to like it. i really like the two hour break, too. it’s amazing how long two hours becomes after you have a kid. it feels like this absolutely luxurious stretch of time.
i spent the first day with him, though, to make sure i liked the place. they have a routine, which is nice, but are not hard-asses hell-bent on forcing the kids to sit in a chair properly or whatever. i also liked the teachers, colleen and elizabeth (who is pregnant with twins!) …they hug & hold & seem very nurturing. every day they have circle time with a story and puppets and songs, then they do hand-washing and a snack, a crafty project, free play, gross motor skills (swings & slides, indoors or outside), diaper change, and more free play till the end.
it feels like a good place.
